STEVEN & MICHAEL SOUKUP

Steven and Michael played high school basketball at Danville High School where they were four-year varsity starters. In their four seasons, the teams combined for an overall record of 103-5 along with 3 state tournament appearances (2 runner-ups and 1 3rd Place finish). In addition to the team success, they both achieved great individual success as well. Individually, Michael and Steven accumulated numerous playing honors including multiple first team all-state selections, multiple Class 1A Player of the Year honors, multiple All-Hawkeye Player of the Year honors, and leading the state all classes in scoring (Steven) and leading the state all classes in assists (Michael) their senior season.

 

In addition to playing high school basketball at Danville, Steven and Michael played competitive AAU basketball for Iowa Pump N Run. Under this level of competition, Steven and Michael were able to gain valuable knowledge from program directors, Duez Henderson and Jason Price (former Iowa Hawkeyes). In addition, they were able to play in marquee tournaments against many highly-ranked national prospects. Through this experience, Steven and Michael received 5 divison-one scholarship opportunities including: UW-Milwaukee, South Dakota, Vermont, Air Force, and Brown.

 

Steven and Michael’s collegiate careers consisted of playing at three institutions. At Southeastern Community College, they were members of two nationally ranked teams. In addition, both played an integral role their sophomore season as both started every game for the Blackhawks. After completing two seasons at Southeastern Community College, Steven and Michael carried on to play at the University of Iowa during the 2015-16 season. During this time, the team obtained a lot of success including being nationally ranked as high as 3rd at one point and knocking off number one, nationally ranked Michigan State. In addition, both appeared in a loss against the eventual national champion, Villanova, during the team’s NCAA tournament game in Brooklyn. After their one season at the University of Iowa, Steven and Michael transferred to Iowa Wesleyan University for their senior season. At Iowa Wesleyan both found individual success along with the team’s success. Steven was named as a 1st Team All-American and Conference Player of the Year. Michael led the conference in assists and was also an all-conference selection. In addition, the team was able to qualify for the national tournament in Pennsylvania where it received a 5th place finish.

Steven and Michael are entering their fifth season as Co-Head Varsity Boy's Basketball Coaches at Danville High School. Danville was able to reach the Class 1A State Tournament in their second season.
